Personal Statement

I’m running to build community and resilience in our city as it grows. My family moved to Redding in 2002 when I was 11, so I’ve seen and experienced many of the changes Redding has gone through over the past couple decades.

I currently work in the Assessor’s Office mapping the county and proudly worked in the Elections Office before that. This has given me a sound understanding of city areas and what makes each part unique. I am also a union steward having negotiated with the county and others to reach satisfying compromises for all parties, a skill I will carry forward.

Redding needs an intensified interest in a continuum of housing through innovative zoning and monetary programs that allow all people, including those unhoused, to move across the housing spectrum from studios to homes.

I am in favor of redeveloping and improving areas already built up, but protecting the natural areas. Once a city loses a green space, especially in the heart of the city, it becomes incredibly difficult to get it back.

Staying in denial of the city’s problems will not make them go away and must be faced square on. We won’t be able to solve every problem, but we should - and can - at least start.

FAQs

Are you a member of any community organizations?

I am heavily involved with my labor union as a union steward. Though I’m not a member of any other specific organizations, I attend many events hosted by local organizations such as NorCal OUTreach & the Mental Health, Alcohol and Drug Advisory Board (MHADAB).

Are you a member of Bethel?

I am not a member of any church or other religious organization, but I am happy to work with anyone from any faith background.

Have you run for a political office before?

Yes, I ran for Redding City Council in 2022. Even though I lost that election I still believe I would be a valuable member of the council.

Have ever been a member of a labor union?

Yes, 3 in fact. I am currently a member of UPEC.

What experience and education makes you qualified to serve on the Redding City Council?

Being a labor negotiator, I know how to reach satisfying agreements between all parties. I am a lifelong student with backgrounds in Social Science (AS), Natural Science (AS), Anthropology (AA), Communication, Criminal Justice, and Art History. I’ve had jobs ranging from pizza delivery to bookstore clerk to events supervisor. I understand what it’s like living paycheck to paycheck with ever increasing cost of living, because I still do.
